OVERVIEW
Our client is an employee-owned, professional consulting and services company, specializing in applying engineering principles and innovative technologies to solve their clients’ most challenging problems. They are actively seeking a motivated and talented professional to join their internationally renowned engineering team as a rock mechanics engineer in their Mining & Engineering business unit. This position is technically challenging and demanding and provides unique opportunities for continued professional and personal growth. This position will be based in their Canadian office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan but will work collaboratively with the Mining and Engineering group in the US, and will report to the manager of the Rock Mechanics group who is based in the US.

This position requires a demonstrated working knowledge and practical experience of engineering principles and business practices to successfully plan and execute a diverse range of geotechnical projects. The successful candidate will work on projects that are primarily focused in the area of underground rock mechanics in evaporites (i.e., potash and salt), including pillar and excavation design, ground-control, and surface-subsidence engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The engineer will be responsible for the complete life of projects—from proposal development through successful project execution staying on schedule and on budget under limited supervision of management staff. The engineer is responsible for simultaneous involvement in multiple projects at one time, requiring well-developed time management skills and the ability to independently prioritize competing project demands while balancing business objectives and client expectations. Strong business development skills are desired as this position will require frequent outreach to existing and new clients to maintain and develop new business within the Rock Mechanics group.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of science degree or master’s degree in mechanical, civil, geological/geotechnical, or mining engineering from an ABET-accredited institution;
- 10–15 years of related engineering experience and a strong background in rock mechanics, specifically underground;
- Working knowledge of CAE software programs for engineering applications;
- Knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of geological materials and experience in material testing;
- Practical experience reviewing measured/recorded data to identify abnormal trends indicative of instability or developing ground-control issues;
- Experience conducting field assessments to identify ground-control hazards and potential instabilities;
- Experience with different types of ground-support systems to contain and support loose rock;
- Familiarity with contact and formation grouting techniques to control water inflows.
